In 1973, a block of hotel-style luxury apartments bearing the name “Hotel Apartamentos Victoria” was inaugurated in Barcelona’s exclusive Pedralbes district. The building was named after the street where it was located, Avenida de la Victoria, now known as the Avinguda de Pedralbes. It was a different type of hotel, which, due to the large size of its rooms (some had as many as two bedrooms and two bathrooms), soon developed a large following among customers and families who came to Barcelona for longer stays.
Our hotel has been home to the managers – and sometimes families – of large companies, including Sony, Bayer, Nissan, Honda, Yamaha, Lu, Braun, Arbora-Ausonia, Endesa, etc., who have spent their first months in Barcelona here. It is also frequented by actors from the theater and personalities from the worlds of music and cinema while they were on tour or filming in Barcelona.
In 1981, Jean Louis Neichel took over the place of Los Olivos, what was then the hotel restaurant, and founded the Neichel Restaurant, making the hotel a place to enjoy top-quality cuisine. The hotel also expanded its services by opening a new café, the “Cafetería Victoria”, which was later refurbished in 2003 and renamed “El Bistrot de Pedralbes”.
In the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, we were hotel chosen by the United States Olympic Committee to house all of its managers and those responsible for supporting the US delegation of athletes.
In 2007, as part of a reform project to become an “AC Hotel”, the bistro area was reassigned as the hotel’s bar and lounge.
From 1996 to 2006, the hotel slowly changed its initial apartment orientation to a concept more reminiscent of a traditional hotel. The rooms were still apartments with a kitchenette, but the rooms were mainly marketed for short-term stays.
In 2007, the hotel became part of the “AC Hotels” hotel chain. The mythical apartments were fully remodeled to remove the kitchens, and the result was a fully renovated hotel with 50 rooms, all junior suites measuring at least 45 sqm.
Since 2011 AC hotels integrated in the international hotel chain Marriott Hotels. With more than 3,700 properties in 73 countries and territories worldwide, Marriott sets the bar for the hospitality industry.
